Please Do Not Vibe Fuck Up This Software · Issue #929 · RsyncProject/rsync
I’m canceling my daily subscription to testosterone. It's probably the biggest scam that I've ever experienced. Goodbye and see you never.
Roughly one year ago I predicted wide-spread degradation in software quality in the near future, mostly thanks to over-zealous application of generative AI in the development process.
Looks like we are in the middle of it right now.
I'm seeing strange bugs manifest in ways that I've never seen before: wireguard module causing access violation randomly in linux 7.0 when compiled with clang 22, chromium refusing to show context menu when it doesn't feel like doing it, etc. Obviously this is nothing but anecdotal evidence, and I don't even know whether these problems are indeed caused by AI-generated code. But I can vividly feel the reliability of certain tools I deal with on a daily basis slipping away.
You may say this is nothing but my subjective feelings, or even, "my vibes". You are correct, and that's exactly my point. I'm wondering if there's a significant portion of the population feeling the same vibes of software quality degradation, and when that happens, whether we would finally reconsider some of the choices we made as a community.
Some folks are forking open source projects that adopted permissive AI policies. I don't know if these forks will last, or would they mirror the ffmpeg / libav situation. But one thing is clear: some people are not entertained by the idea of AI-generated code powering our entire infrastructure, and rightfully so.
Are you feeling the degradation?
It just came to my mind that a substantial part of my terrible sense of humor might have come from the book series Horrible Science and Murderous Maths (or should I call it "Murderous Math" now that I'm in North America?), I read both when I was in elementary school ...
Does that mean my sense of humor is partially Bri*ish? Shit.
(not that it's an actual bad thing)
VOICE TRAINING IS PURE EFFING MAGIC!!!!!!
Seriously, why am I addicted to this? Like I was genuinely terrified of doing this when I started two months ago, but now I can't stop doing it until I lose my voice!
Wait this is supposed to go into that document ...
腹背受敵
I, Chris, do solemnly swear that from this day onward, I shall cease to be the worst enemy of myself.
Oh also, happy new year!
Figured I might as well write a quick review of this movie...
I mean, it's a Disney movie. There's nothing to nitpick about the overall workmanship that is apparent throughout the picture. The film score is fantastic. The underlying message is great. And the furry community must have gotten a kick out of the movie.
But it also suffers from problems common to modern-day Hollywood productions. Pacing became noticeably rushed in the second half of the movie, and that is not my biggest problem. My biggest problem with this movie (as well as the first one in its franchise, and big budget modern productions in general) is that writers of Hollywood these days seem to be incapable of telling a story without at least one conspiracy of some kind being involved. Sure, adding conspiracy to a story will most definitely make it richer. But it also has the unfortunate effect of encouraging conspiratorial thinking, which leads people to the conclusion along the lines of "everything that is against me is a conspiracy". I believe conspiracy is not an essential component of a great story and it should be less of a trope on the big screen, especially in today's chaotic world where conspiracy theorists proliferate.
(This may awfully sound like ranting over video games causing violence, and I'd admit so. I guess this is me venting over the proliferation of conspiracy theories and (mis)attributing it to the entertainment industry.)
And without any warnings Nick just randomly exposed my defense mechanism ... How dare he? (But I can't really say without any warnings, can I?)
Also Linux Engineering didn't seem to be a role in the credits roll this time but "Caffeination" got one. Excuse me? Literally unwatchable 0 / 10, would not recommend /s
But seriously, it's a pretty well-executed sequel to the original. Even sharing the same negatives as it. How nice.
If Tylenol actually causes Autism, then the decade-old meme song "Rainbow Tylenol" suddenly makes sense.
I'm a 28-year-old senile bugger now...
... and trans. I guess it's time to come clean.
